The Economic Impact of BT and EE in Northern Ireland
Independent research was undertaken in 2016 to look at the economic contribution of BT and EE to Northern Ireland. The research revealed that:
- BT contributed £470 million to the Northern Ireland economy during the 2015/16 financial year
- Nearly 3,200 people are directly employed by BT and its EE business – equivalent to one in every five employees working in the region’s IT and communications sector.
- Around £109 million was spent with local suppliers.
- The purchase of EE reinforces BT’s position as a leading employer responsible for around 5,440 jobs across Northern Ireland through direct employment, spending with contractors and suppliers and the spending of employees.
