This competition aimed at entrepreneurs and start-ups that could help keep BT Sport at the heart of digital innovation and bring viewers even closer to the action. This is the second iteration of this competition. The winners from the 2016 round were London based Seenit, who are now a key part of BT Sport’s Premier League Tonight show, see below for more details.
We are looking for new solutions that can be applied to sports broadcasting or transform the way we operate BT Sport. The competition is open to companies globally who want to work with BT Sport in the UK or on location at sporting events globally. Entries are encouraged to focus on disrupting traditional broadcast approaches, including (but not exclusively) capturing the in venue experience, encouraging interaction between sports fans, the use data and analytics to analyse key sporting highlights, ways of making live sports more accessible for impaired viewers as well as new technologies such as 360 video and VR.
For this competition the winner will again have the support of BT Innovation teams and BT Sport to trial their successful technology or service with BT. You will also receive six months membership at TechHub with access to their workspace and events.
The competition is backed by BT Sport presenter Craig Doyle who will be one of the members of a “Dragons’ Den” style panel interviewing the finalist companies at the BT Sport studios in London. The judging panel will be chaired by Jamie Hindhaugh COO for BT TV & Sport.
Craig Doyle said: “BT Sport has been at the forefront of bringing fans some of the most exciting innovations in broadcasting and digital media. Our Premier League coverage has been boosted by last year’s winner and I look forward to seeing how the rest of our sports coverage might benefit from this year’s Infinity Lab Competition winner.”
SeenIt on Premier League Tonight
After winning the competition the BT Team worked with SeenIt to trial their solution in a number of sports scenarios over the summer of 2016. This allowed us to experiment with the technology and identify how we could integrate into the BT Sport programming operations.
Premier League Tonight was a perfect fit, the round-up show covering all Premier League matches has a particular focus on engagement with fans. It involves fans sending in questions for BT Sport pundits to answer as well as fans summarising matches they’ve been watching across the country on video and sending their vlog in to BT Sport for Jake Humphrey to show.
