Events round-up


Mobile World Congress - February 24th - March 22nd, Barcelona

BT and Huawei have teamed up to show how 'network slicing' – a method of carving out specific 'slices' of an IP-based network for dedicated purposes – may be used to support services delivered over tomorrow's 5G networks.

BT and Huawei's research in this area was showcased at on the Huawei stand at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

Meanwhile, at the same event, BT got together with Nokia to explore how 5G can support future virtual reality services.

Visitors to the Home Experience demonstration area on the Nokia stand used VR headsets to watch a replay of the UEFA cup match between Tottenham Hotspur and CSK Moscow, broadcast by BT Sport from Wembley in early December.


RootMetrics Awards - February 2017

EE has been named as the UK's top performing mobile network for the seventh time in a row by RootMetrics.

The independent mobile analytics firm measures how people experience network performance.

Its awards for the second half of 2016 rated EE best across all six categories: Overall performance; network reliability; speed; data; call and text services.

RootMetrics said: "EE's performance was a cut above the rest."


TV Connect - March 28th - 30th, Excel, London

Executives from BT and EE were among the speakers at the TV Connect event held in London at the end of March.

TV Connect brings together industry leading telecom operators, cable operators, MSO's, broadcasters, OTT TV players and content owners to discuss and showcase the latest technological advancements and innovative developments that are set to 'change-the-game'.

The theme for this year's event was 'Disruptive Convergence: Redefining the audience-driven TV world'.

BT speakers included Mark Wilson-Dunn, vice-president, BT Media and Broadcast Services and Brendan Hole, BT TV and content architect.

BT Media and Broadcast used the event to showcase its 'Links Truck' (outside broadcast van) and its general TVOB (TV Outside Broadcast) capabilities.


BT opens innovation showcase - March 27th, near Ipswich

BT has opened of a new customer experience showcase for its financial industry clients.

Located at its Adastral Park research and development hub, near Ipswich, the showcase demonstrates how digital innovations can be securely adopted throughout a financial services organisation to improve efficiency and customer experience while creating a platform to drive growth.

The showcase features more than 20 practical solutions spanning customer interaction, employee productivity, operational efficiency and security.

It also demonstrates how to secure customer access to financial services products using biometric tools such as facial recognition, techniques for authentication of online users and palm vein authentication for cash withdrawals.
