We’re supporting a new humanitarian appeal fund to help people in Yemen
22 December 2016
The UK’s Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) has launched the Yemen Crisis Appeal to raise funds for an estimated 18.8 million people in need of help.
We’re managing online and telephone donations from the public through our high-capacity telethons platform. And through our charitable fundraising service MyDonate we’ve launched the DEC web page for people to make online donations.
We’ve worked with and supported DEC for many years. So we’re always ready to react to emergency appeals such as this.
With shocking images of starving people, many of them children, emerging out of Yemen, DEC says more than seven million people don’t know where their next meal will come from, and children are dying from malnutrition.
And, with the lives of millions of people being torn apart by the ongoing conflict in the country, DEC says three million people have been forced to flee their homes.
Suzy Christopher BT Charity and Community Director says: “We’ve all been shocked by the horrific images emerging from Yemen of the suffering of its people. It’s clear that on top of being forced from their homes, many millions of people – including children – face starving to death unless the rest of the world can get aid to them quickly.
“We’re proud to provide our MyDonate platform to support the launch of the DEC Yemen Appeal. And I’m sure many people will do what they can to support this worthy appeal.”
