15 December 2017
We’re the world’s greenest telco for the second year running and in the top 10 for all global companies.
Those are the findings of the 2017 Newsweek Green Ranking.
It compares the sustainability performance of the 500 largest publicly-traded global companies by revenue.
We set out to reduce our carbon emissions intensity by 80% by 2020.
We achieved our target in 2016, four years ahead of schedule.
Our new goal is to reduce emissions across our business by 87 per cent by 2030.
Gabrielle Giner, BT Head of Environmental Sustainability Policy said: “We’re continuing to build on our success. Since Newsweek compiled its 2017 report, we’ve set new targets in our supply chain area and announced a new science-based carbon emission intensity target. In addition, EE has switched to renewable energy.”
The 2017 ranking uses data to the end of 2016.
The only other operators to appear in the global top 100 were Orange in 37th place, NTT Docomo in 54th and Telecom Italia in 85th position.
